Friday 6 July 2012 37-FT LONG DRAWINGS OF THE LONDON RIVERSIDE UNFURLED BY ARTIST MATTEO PERICOLI FIRST UK EXHIBITION OF ‘LONDON UNFURLED’ From 11 July, PM Gallery & House will present a richly detailed exploration of the riverside architecture of London. London Unfurled is the result of a walk alongside the Thames by Italian illustrator and architect Matteo Pericoli. London Unfurled runs from 11 July to 2 September at PM Gallery, in Ealing, west London, the extension to Sir John Soane’s Pitzhanger Manor. Admission is free. This is the first time that Matteo Pericoli’s original London Unfurled drawings have been shown anywhere in the UK. Over two weeks in September 2009, Matteo Pericoli walked from Hammersmith Bridge to the O2 Arena and back again, examining the scene beside the Thames, taking 6,100 photographs and seeing off a pair of shoes in the process. The two resulting 11.5 metre drawings, showing the city as it is seen from the north and south banks, will each be unfurled around PM Gallery. Matteo Pericoli’s drawings are packed with familiar buildings, including St Paul’s Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament, Battersea Power Station and the Shard, but include details that people may never previously have noticed. The pen-and-ink drawings feature 41 bridges, 58 cranes, 1,343 individual buildings, over 27,000 window panes and 3,000 waves on the river. ex2013ct_opnVisual Arts, Exhibitions; Target Free Thursday Nights; Opening. Album: Cinematheque Tangier, November 21, 2013 – May 18, 2014, Burnet Gallery.DJ Rupture in the Cargill Lounge, November 21, 2013.The exhibition Album: Cinematheque Tangier, a project by Yto Barrada includes films, artworks, and artifacts that speak to the artist’s connection with the social and political realities that shape her hometown—its rich and fractured history of migration, indigenous communities, and colonization. In the gallery, screenings of short works from the archive of Cinémathèque de Tanger and the Walker’s Ruben/Bentson Collection reflect life in the region from the 1930s to the present. Sculptures by Barrada—Palm Sign and a set of dioramas that depict cinemas during the heyday of grand theaters—are presented with her film Hand-Me-Downs (2011), a montage of Super 8 home movies from the 1960s. Artist-commissioned and vintage movie posters and a Scopitone “music jukebox” featuring films made by North African migrant workers in 1960s Paris are also on view. Together, these elements create an album that portrays Morocco’s rich and complex visual and cinematic culture.Curators: Sheryl Mousley and Clara Kim
